My Favorite Things to Get At Trader Joe's Part 1 (Newsletter No. 35)
Note: I didn’t say the best things, I said my favorite things.
Mini Chicken Tacos: These have that authentic afterschool taste to them. Tex Mex chicken mush in a crispy-ish hardshell taco. If you like Totino’s, you might like these.
Turkey Corn Dogs: Learned about these in a this Ballerina Food Diary. They’re so comforting and foods on a stick are always fun. I buy a couple consecutive boxes and get sick of them for a few months and then buy them again. Better with mustard or yogurt than with ketchup.
Soyaki Sauce and the Island Soyaki sauce: OMG just drizzle this all over their frozen broccoli and frozen chicken thigh/breast and it tastes so expert and mall-like.
Sliced Brioche: In the summer I would top it with their French cultured salted butter and blueberry jam and call it cake, UNTOASTED.
The Everything Bagel Seasoning Yogurt Dip. I also just buy their greek yogurt and everything bagel seasoning and mix it myself. It goes so well with celery, sweet peppers, cucumbers, ridged potato chips, tater tots. It’s the perfect alone dinner.
Their Takis: I never tried Takis but these are great. The spice, the tang. The rolled up shape that’s easy to hold and so satisfying to crunch. It’s a scientific marvel. Take a mere Dorito, roll it up, same mass, X percentage more crunch.
The Chicken Xiao Long Bao Soup Dumplings. The only soup dumplings I ever eat in the past few years is at Din Tai Fung in Taiwan, by the dozens, but I’m no snob anymore. Give me some meat, juice, dough and a kick of ginger and I’ll gobble it up.
Cornbread Mix. So good. So fancy. I tried it with strawberries and blueberries as filling, so good. But I want to try savory fillings next.
I also usually get boring stuff like frozen veggies and chicken breast and most of the above less often than I’d like, but not sure if I’ll put the veggies and chicken in a future favorites.
